The category is young and growing fast: Peec AI, Otterly, Profound, Semrush and Ahrefs all have something for it by now, and so do we. This article is our attempt to explain the choice honestly, including the cases where you are better off picking a competitor. The five questions below decide more than which logo you choose.
1. Are you buying prompts or measurements?
Most tools sell a number of "prompts": questions that are tracked periodically. Otterly starts at $29 for 15 prompts, Peec at $89 for 25. That sounds manageable, but it hides the most important variable: how often is each question asked? Fetching one answer once a week gives a moving line with chance rippling through it.
That is why we sell measurements: one question, asked once, to one assistant. Ten questions weekly across three assistants, each repeated three times, is 360 measurements per month. That repetition is not a luxury; it is what gives a percentage meaning.
2. Is there an interval with the figures?
This is the fastest test we know. Open a screenshot of the dashboard and look for a percentage. Is there a margin of uncertainty next to it? In our own measurements a brand came out at 36% visibility in Claude, with a 95% interval from 26 to 47. That interval is not a footnote: it means a "drop" to 30% next week says nothing, and that a tool firing an alarm at it wastes your attention.
As far as we know, the big international tools do not show this. It is the reason we exist; feel free to read the whole method before you take us at our word.
3. Do the assistants agree? (no)
Choose a tool that measures multiple assistants, and distrust any offer that takes one "as an indication". We asked three assistants the same sixty questions: the same brand scored 36% in Claude, 5% in ChatGPT and 1% in Gemini. Of the 398 domains the three cited, 316 appeared with exactly one assistant. So visibility with one barely predicts the other.
4. Who sees the report?
If you measure for yourself, this is irrelevant. But agencies pass the report on to clients, and then suddenly whose name is on it matters. Ask about white-label: your own logo, your own domain, shareable reports without a login. With most international tools this is an afterthought; with us it is half the product, right down to an automatic certificate at rapport.jouwbureau.nl.
5. Can you try it without a sales call?
The category splits into two worlds: self-service (Otterly, us) and sales-driven (Profound, partly Peec). Neither is wrong, but know what you are choosing: with sales-driven tools you only learn the real price after a call. We put everything on the pricing page and the first hundred and twenty measurements are free, without payment details; the most honest demo is your own brand in real figures.
The short version
Want to start cheaply with a handful of prompts: Otterly. Are you an international team with six platforms and Looker dashboards: Peec. Want to know whether a difference is real before you put budget on it, or do you deliver reports under your own name as a Dutch agency: that is exactly the gap we built Geony for.
